Award Summaries and Qualifications

TPMA has numerous members who give their time and effort year in and year out to strengthen and preserve the Association.  The following awards are established to recognize members based on their contributions and services rendered. 

Special Appreciation

To qualify for the Special Appreciation Award, the individual must be an active member of the TPMA in good standing for at least five years. The individual must have shown exemplary activities that support and advance podiatric medicine.

Young Practitioner of the Year

To qualify for Young Practitioner of the Year Award, the individual must be an active member of the TPMA in good standing and be within the first five years of practice.  The individual must have shown exemplary activities that support and advance podiatric medicine.

Merit

To qualify for the Merit Award, the individual must be an active member of the TPMA in good standing for at least five years. The individual must have shown exemplary activities that support and advance podiatric medicine.

Advocate of the Year

The Advocate of the Year Award is to recognize a podiatrist advocate who has excelled in grassroots advocacy.  The Advocate of the Year inspires others to make a difference by engaging their elected officials in discussions and promoting policies that support podiatric medicine to enhance foot and ankle healthcare for the citizens of Texas. 

To qualify for Advocate of the Year Award, the individual must be an active member of the TPMA and have shown exemplary activities that support and advance podiatric medicine with their own Texas Senator and Representative, staff members of the Texas Legislature, regulatory agencies, and local community leaders.

Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award may be awarded to a TPMA member in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in service and leadership to the association and for their work on professional endeavors at the state and national level.

To qualify for the Distinguished Service Award, individuals must have demonstrated outstanding service to the TPMA. Nominees also must demonstrate high moral and ethical values and unimpeachable character.  Must exemplify the mission and goals of the association and made major contributions to the TPMA. Must be an active TPMA member in good standing for at least five years.

No more than one (1) TPMA Distinguished Service Award may be awarded in any one year, nor shall it necessarily be the policy of the Association to make yearly awards. A person may receive only one (1) TPMA Distinguished Service Award in his/her lifetime.   This is the highest award bestowed on a member by TPMA.

Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame was created in 2021 to recognize individuals who have had a significant influence on the podiatric profession at the state and national level, received the TPMA Distinguished Service Award and continue to serve the profession by dedicating their time, expertise, and insights. 

To qualify for the Hall of Fame Award, the individual must be an active member of the TPMA in good standing for at least thirty-five years.  This award is for individuals that have received the TPMA Distinguished Service Award.  Their service to the TPMA must have been significant, substantial, and long-standing.  They must have demonstrated unparalleled excellence and serve as ambassadors in their field.  The individual must have made significant contributions to the profession and mentored generations of current and future podiatrists.  They must have shown exemplary activities that support and advance podiatric medicine on the state and national level.
